It is His work. I am like a little pencil in God's hand. That is all.
He does the thinking. He does the writing. The pencil has nothing to do with it.
The pencil has only to be allowed to be used.

Last But Not Least

Well, here we are, creeping quickly towards the end of the school year and here is the last student birthday...that means now you've meet all my students!

Meet Gabriel!
Here he is presenting some pictures to the class.
(The tradition in our classroom is that on a student's birthday he/she brings in a poster of pictures of himself/herself growing up and also answers a questionnaire about his/her "favorites." Then I interview the birthday student in a 'Special Birthday Edition of the Second Grade Talk Show.' Afterwards, each student makes a page for a birthday book for the birthday student, including writing what they learned about him/her that day and what they appreciate about him/her.)
Happy Birthday, Gabriel!

Gabriel joined us halfway through the school year. His actual birthday is in November, but since we celebrate half-birthdays for kids with summer birthdays, we celebrated Gabriel's half birthday too since he wasn't with us for his actual birthday. Gabriel enjoys drawing and playing soccer. He also really loves the Titanic, and he often draws pictures of it and reads books about it. He is fascinated by it because it was such a big ship and it sank. Even though this is his first experience in an English-speaking school, he worked really hard to learn English before joining us at ECA, where he continues to work hard. I am amazed at his current English level in reading, writing, and speaking. Gabriel is a creative and hard-working student. My prayer for him is that he will always stand up for what he believes and knows to be true/right even when it's tough to go against the crowd.

  1. Sophie, what a great idea to have them bring in a posterboard with pictures, and then have a game show type interview! So fun!
