The following festivities brought this school year to an end. It still hasn't really set in for me that this year is finished...maybe when I finally land back on U.S. soil! But, I do know that I am certain Bogotá/ECA is where I am supposed to be again next year. I really feel like these end-of-year events were a final affirmation for me in this! PTL!
Here is a video of my students telling Philippians 4:8-9. It was our theme verse for chapel this year. Oh, and it's in the form of a song! We are blessed with a wonderful music teacher who writes the verses into songs, making them fun and easy to learn!
Our school year ended on Saturday with a special program for each grade. I put together a slide show for my students and their parents which I tried really hard to make available here, but nothing was working (It is available on GoogleDocs though, but you have to download it in order to view it: https://docs.google.com/leaf?id=0B_zcv6sluGcrNDM5Y2NhZWItODU2Zi00NjFkLWJhMjItYjI4N2IwM2IzMzQz&hl=en_US&authkey=CLO-qMkH).
It starts with a slide for each student, showing pictures of how they've changed this year and also the awards that they were given. Each student got a character award and a classroom recognition award. It was so fun thinking back over the year and seeing how they've grown and thinking about what awards they deserved. Their classmates also helped to vote on some of the awards. We had a special awards ceremony in our classroom to present them and to take time for the students to share comments of appreciation with their friends. It was a really special time. The slideshow also shows pictures of the various things we did this year. Enjoy!
Also on Saturday’s last day of school, there was a special celebration to mark ECA’s 30 year anniversary. It was also special because a phase of new construction is just finishing, including a beautiful new library! They unveiled a plaque in the side of the new building as you can see in the picture below. The theme of the ceremony and the dedication was giving God all the glory and thanks for our school!
Our school’s graduation ceremony was held at a church on Sunday. American and Colombian diplomas were handed out to 17 seniors. As is traditional at ECA graduation ceremonies, National Anthems are played for all countries being represented by the graduating class. This year there were seven: Colombia, United States, Brazil, Bulgaria, Canada, Guatemala, and Korea.
It's been a wonderful year of learning and growing! Thank you for all your love and support! Thank you so much for making it possible for me to be here! Please continue to pray for wisdom and peace for me as I am still not sure about which grade I'll be teaching next year (2nd again or moving on the 3rd). Thanks!
Love, Sophie
